Low storage 

The phone’s low storage can be a reason for phone hanging.  If you are using many apps (installed), stored video, games, etc, and your phone’s memory is near to full or in over storage zone.

Poor quality of external memory cards 

If you are using a good mobile phone and everything is good with your phone but, still you faced a phone hanging problem. Then, you should check the quality of external memory cards. Bad quality external memory cards are sometimes responsible for mobile’s overall slow speed, and phone freeze too.This is because these low-quality memory cards are unable to handle the processing speed. These are very low-speed memory cards in the sense of data transfer. 

Outdated Software version

Outdated software versions can also cause your phone to hang. System softwares are regularly updated to fix bugs that may hinder your phone from operating optimally.

This is also another very common type of problem for many android users in the world. It has its own reasons and factors but overheating is also a factor that affects the mobile processing speed. As a result hang problems arise and even sometimes an unusual phone restarts.

Uninstall suspicious apps

Applications that are not downloaded from your phone’s default app store commonly contain viruses that affects your device’s performance. Uninstall these apps and restrain from downloading softwares from unreliable sources to avoid malware that affect the performance of your phone.

Avoid Live wallpapers

Don’t keep animated or Live wallpaper, as it would directly affect RAM’s performance. Try to keep your device display with simple or no wallpaper.

Multitasking

While surfing internet don’t run multiple tabs or perform multiple tasks because it slows down processor and consumes lot of RAM.
Avoid running multiple apps If you are using a low-end smartphone, try not to run multiple apps at the same time.
Anti-virus Install reliable Anti-Virus software on your mobile. Sometimes, malware or virus can slow down your smartphone.

Keep All the Apps Updated

Keep visiting the app stores like Google Play (if you have Android phone) and iTunes App Store (if you’ve an iPhone). Mobile app developers keep on improving performance of their apps. Therefore it is highly recommended that you regularly update all the apps as and when a better version is available. Latest versions of apps may be designed to use lesser memory and CPU power.

Shut Down Your Mobile Phone

Shutting down your phone every once in a while is a good idea because it will completely refresh the memory of phone. When you will restart your phone, its memory will be free of all the unnecessary pieces of data that were lingering on and occupying the memory space.

Install Apps in External Memory (SD Card)

Usually the external memory is larger than the internal memory. If your phone hangs, it is recommended that to install apps in the external memory (i.e. SD Card) of the phone. Most of the mobile phone users install all sorts of apps in their phones. When installing the apps, they don’t pay much attention to where the app is going to be installed and what impact it can have on the performance of the phone.

For this you can set the default write disk.

Go to Settings > Storage > Default write disk > Select SD Card.

Delete Unnecessary Apps

You can also browse through the list of the apps installed in your phone. You might spot a few apps that you had installed once upon a time but you no longer require them. Uninstall such apps immediately. They stay idle in your phone and waste the all important memory space.

Delete Unnecessary Data (like photos, videos, songs)

Photos, videos and audio take up most of the space the phone of an average smartphone user. And it is one of the common reasons why your phone hangs. If you have stored images, videos and songs in the internal memory; you’re really choking up the internal memory space and that could very well become the cause of your phone hanging all the time. Delete those all or Alternatively, first you can take backup of this data in your computer and then delete it from your phone.

Identify most Resource taking apps

Some of the apps use much more memory than other apps. Game apps (like Angry Birds) are among the top memory guzzling apps. You can check how much memory each of your apps are using. For this go to Settings > Apps (or Memory) > Running Apps. Here you will be able to see which app is using exactly how much memory.

Install Antivirus Software

If your mobile phone is playing host to a virus, the virus can considerably slow down your mobile phone. Needless to say, your phone will hang often. So, obviously you need an anti-virus. Although anti-virus software itself take up a lot of memory but it is better to have the virus removed.

Reset factory settings

If all the above tips do not work, it is advised that you reset your phone’s software. Also known as Factory reset, this fix will give your phone’s software a fresh start but ensure you backed up your data so you don’t lose any important information.

Smartphones with more impressive specs are less likely to hang compared to budget devices with lesser specs. Whichever phone you’re using, the tips above should fix your phone hanging problem.

Note: Please note factory reset will delete all the exisisting files on your phone so you must make a backup of files firstly before doing so.

Avoid heavy games/videos and using for long periods

 Playing games of large sizes take up a huge space on your phone’s ram while it is running and doing this for long periods of time stretches your phone’s capabilities which results in hanging. Avoid these games on phones with small rams and if you have to, do not play for a long period of time.

Download & install latest software

 Your phone’s software and other apps release updated versions regularly and these updates usually contain bug fixes that may solve any abnormality you’re experiencing with your phone or particular apps. It is recommended that you download and install system updates for your phone to fix any phone hangingor freezing problems associated with the previous software version.
